Trainer Spotlight: Devin Henry

Q: How long have you been an Ukeru trainer?

A: I have been a Ukeru trainer for 3 years.

Q: What population do you work with? What inspired you to get into this field?

A: I support teachers and students in K-12+ specialized programs with various needs as well as challenging behaviors.

Q: What part of Ukeru do you enjoy teaching the most and why?

A: I really enjoy the section about brain development. Someone learns something new every single time we discuss how trauma affects pathway development.

Q: What would you say to someone who is unsure about using Ukeru?

A: It has been a game changer in some of our most intense classrooms. Ukeru is one more tool to add to your “teacher toolbelt”.

Q: What advice or tip would you give to a new Ukeru trainer?

A: This isn’t just about the pads. When you give staff the opportunity to learn, they are then able to make new pathway connections as well. This allows for lifelong learning. Practice Often.

Q: How has Ukeru impacted your life?

A: Our staff injuries had an immediate decline. Staff feel more confident to keep themselves and students safe in crisis.

Q: What is your favorite quote or a motto that you like to live by?

A: “People are doing the best they can with the skills they have”. It is my job to help strengthen those skills!

Q: What three words would you use to describe Ukeru?

A: Space, Calm, Safe.
