Who We Are

Ukeru Systems® is a division of Grafton Integrated Health Network, a nationally-recognized leader in providing multiple levels of support to people with a wide range of emotional and/or behavioral challenges. Over the past 10 years, Grafton developed unique and award winning care management tools and techniques. Ukeru Systems now provides Grafton’s behavioral management tools and care trainings to other behavioral health providers.

The Evolution of Ukeru

In 2004, Grafton’s then CEO, Jim Gaynor set a directive that guided our work—minimize the use of restraint and seclusion without compromising client or employee safety. Grafton committed to not only reduce the use of restraint and seclusion, but also to replace these procedures with alternatives that promoted a safe, comforting and secure environment for clients and employees.

A revolutionary technique, known as Ukeru, was developed within the organization. Ukeru was Grafton’s first alternative solution. It involves the use of soft, cushiony materials to protect oneself from aggressive behaviors and the use of protective equipment such as gloves, shin guards and umpire shields to protect clients and employees.

This is the life that this person wants to live, and we are helping — by meeting them where they are. It is not about containing or restraining, but building and growing.
